Braves Journal, The House That Mac Built

Scarred, but smarter.

28 Jun

Francoeur suce.

  1. 1
    'Rissa Says:

    Impressionnant, monsieur Mac.

  2. 2
    Alzheimers'08! Says:

Finally named my boat “Jeff Francouer Sucks” i’ll post the link to the pics soon…thanks for all the input guys (and gals)

  3. 3
    Kyle B. Says:

I can’t wait to see that.

I’ve never really wanted a boat, as much as I’ve wanted to name a boat.

  4. 4
    JB Says:

Did you do a lillibridge or B. Jones write up that I missed?

  5. 5
    Seat Painter Says:

    Jair Jurrjens, tres bien!

  6. 6
    Tomas Says:

Just watched Jurrjens performance from yesterday again and what I noticed most (as I think someone mentioned in the game thread), is that I can’t think of any uniforms in any kind of sports worse than those powderpuff suits the Jays donned.

  7. 7
    billy-jay Says:

The Astros old rainbow unis were worse.

  8. 8
    Seat Painter Says:

Those turd brown unis from the Padres sucked just as bad as well.

  9. 9
    jjschiller Says:

Anybody else see the Braves signed former Met’s catcher Jason Phillips and sent him to Richmond?

Just a depth move, or could the Hamster soon be replaced by a slightly more capable rodent? Perhaps a raccoon or an o’possum?

  10. 10
    Tomas Says:

billy-jay, yeah I agree the old Astros color explosion uniforms were worse. I should have qualified it as currently used uniforms.

  11. 11
    billy-jay Says:

Tomas, don’t discount the possibility that the Astros will drag them out for some throwback night.

And what happened to Sal Fasano? Did the Braves figure out he sucked, too? That seems unlikely.

  12. 12
    jjschiller Says:

We traded him about a week ago, I think

  13. 13
    billy-jay Says:

Oh yeah? What’d we get? Hopefully something with a bad-ass moustache.

  14. 14
    Bethany Says:

The astros actually wore those uni a few days ago… So awful. I’m really sad I didn’t get to watch Jair pitch, but baseball has to take a back seat when it’s a first date.

  15. 15
    Tomas Says:

Bethany, you can watch all the games on (free) from about 15-30 minutes after they finish.

  16. 16
    Robert Says:

but baseball has to take a back seat when it’s a first date.

Can’t leave us hanging….so how’d it go? Who’s her favorite Brave? If she said Francouer it’s probably best just to lose her number.

  17. 17
    Tomas Says:

Ah, so the Jays wore them as part of some throwback stuff. That explains it a little, I don’t really watch that much American League ball and thought they were a regular occasion.

  18. 18
    Stu Says:

I think it’s a he, Robert. Bethany is a she.

If the he’s favorite player is Jeff Francoeur, though, that should absolutely be a deal-breaker.

  19. 19
    jjschiller Says:

We sent him to Cleveland for a ptbnl.

“Fasano, 36, hit .193 (16-83) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs and 9RBI in 26 games with the AAA Richmond Braves in 2008”

  20. 20
    j-rod jones Says:

Oh, they were using throwback jerseys? I thought they just allowed Kelly Gruber to take every at bat last night.

  21. 21
    billy-jay Says:

So… one hour until game time? It’s about 1:10 am here. Just wondering if I should stay up to follow the game. My game is likely to be rained out tomorrow.

  22. 22
    billy-jay Says:

    Thanks, JJ.

I hope he makes it back to the big leagues. Either that or he starts posting here.

  23. 23
    Robert Says:

I think it’s a he, Robert. Bethany is a she.

Ah! And my edit countdown timer has reached zero, I’m stuck with that mistake forever!

My apologies Bethany. I guess it could still have been a she but it’s not a high percentage assumption.

  24. 24
    jjschiller Says:

Who would win in a death match? Todd Pratt, Corky Miller, or Sal Fasano’s mustache?

  25. 25
    Stu Says:

  26. 26
    jjschiller Says:

Stu, Sal Fasano’s mustache just put you on its list.

  27. 27
    Bethany Says:

    It’s fine Robert ^_^

He actually isn’t a big baseball fan, yet. I plan to bring him over to the light. The date was great, we get along very well, the movie was great, and he’s very, very attractive. It was actually my first date ever, so yeah. A good night.

Tomas, I did not know that! Thank you for telling me.

  28. 28
    Stu Says:

Are you saying that thing would lose to Miller or Pratt? Seems like you’re the one who should be watching his back.

  29. 29
    oldtimer? Says:

Braves not on Extra Innings today, I hate saturday afternoon games, always ruined by FOX

  30. 30
    Bethany Says:

Maybe Mazzone will be in the booth today? I enjoyed him the last time he worked a Saturday game on Fox.

  31. 31
    Dave Says:

    Line-ups for today…

    G. Blanco cf
    R. Gotay 3b
    K. Johnson 2b
    M. Teixeira 1b
    G. Norton dh
    B. McCann c
    J. Francoeur rf
    B. Lillibridge ss
    B. Jones lf

  32. 32
    Robert Says:

He actually isn’t a big baseball fan, yet. I plan to bring him over to the light. The date was great, we get along very well, the movie was great, and he’s very, very attractive. It was actually my first date ever, so yeah. A good night.

Nice. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the movie? I haven’t seen anything great in a while, and since I only get to about five movies a year I need to make them count. Although I saw Get Smart and thought it was pretty good, but I’m a huge Steve Carell guy some maybe my take was off.

Hey, have I mentioned I’m stuck at work on a Saturday and a little board? Or does that go without saying?

  33. 33
    Robert Says:

Swapping Norton and McCann plus Lillibridge and Jones because of the lefty pitching. Bobby is hilarious. There is no way McCann and Jones could handle THE John Parrish whose last decent effort in the majors was in 2005.

  34. 34
    ASG Says:

    Allez Baves!

  35. 35
    Stu Says:

At least he left KJ third. I’d have given Lilli a crack at the top of the order and of course wouldn’t have my best hitter hitting 6th, but it’s alright, I guess, considering who we have to work with.

  36. 36
    Bethany Says:

Robert, it was Wall E. I love everything Pixar does, and this is easily one of their best.

It doesn’t matter how bad they are, lefties always make me nervous.

  37. 37
    Adam M Says:

“It doesn’t matter how bad they are, lefties always make me nervous.”

I think they make the Braves nervous too.

  38. 38
    Adam M Says:

So… are both Chipper and Escobar headed to the DL? I feel like that’s gonna happen. And if it does on days McCann sits, it’s possible the Braves will post a less impressive lineup than most AA squads. I don’t mean that to be hyperbole either.

  39. 39
    Mac Thomason Says:

    We’re gonna lose.

  40. 40
    billy-jay Says:

    Wait, Eckstein is still playing?

  41. 41
    ububba Says:

Province fausse, Mac. À Ontario, ils n’aiment pas toujours les Francophones.

    Bonne chance, Bethany.

Les vieux uniformes de Toronto ressemblent à quelque chose “du Monde de Sid et de Marty Kroft.”

    Et allons, Braves.

  42. 42
    Mac Thomason Says:

Apparently, if you fall behind 2-0, just throw it anywhere, the umpire will call it a strike.

  43. 43
    barrycuda Says:

i guess i missed one of the seasons best games last night but it was worth making the trek up to i still have too mant bad memories of that damn skydome.

  44. 44
    Adam M Says:

It’s disconcerting how easily lefties get this team out.

I wonder if the team that ultimately signs Tex to a huge contract will notice that his OPS was 235 points higher against righties.

  45. 45
    Bethany Says:

Is Toronto where old players go to die? Stairs? Rolan? Eckstein???

  46. 46
    Mac Thomason Says:

And there’s the only run they’ll need.

  47. 47
    billy-jay Says:

Question: is this team better off with the pitchers batting?

  48. 48
    Tomas Says:

  49. 49
    billy-jay Says:

Better question: could Hudson pinch hit for his designated hitter?

  50. 50
    Mac Thomason Says:

According to the closed captioning, this game is from the ROGETS CENTER. How many synonyms can you think of for “perfect game”?

  51. 51
    Brick Tamland Says:

Way to make Parrish work, Frenchy.

  52. 52
    Bethany Says:

I have a bad feeling about this.

    Also, Jeff looks like hell.

  53. 53
    Jason Says:

Wait, wait: John Parrish has struck out four through three perfect innings? Man, I’m glad I’m heading to work shortly.

  54. 54
    Adam M Says:

Parrish has figured out that he doesn’t need to throw a strike to the bottom of the order.

  55. 55
    Tomas Says:

That miiiight have been ball 4 there, Brent :)

  56. 56
    timo Says:

Damn our lineup looks weak. That one run might actually just make the difference.

  57. 57
    bmac Says:

Some of those old uniforms do resemble something from Sid & Marty Kroft, and not just Toronto’s either. The Brave’s old baby blue road uni’s weren’t great either.

    Er, go Braves.

  58. 58
    Tomas Says:

Watching the replay from last night earlier, when Matt Stairs was up to bat early the announcers said he was leading the club with 8 homers, and I thought no way in hell I heard that correctly, but incredibly enough…

  59. 59
    Adam M Says:

Braves-Blue Jays shaping up to be another slugfest!

  60. 60
    Robert Says:

The FOX induced blackout I’m in over here seems merciful.

  61. 61
    Mac Thomason Says:

They just turned a double play with two out. Oh, dear.

  62. 62
    Tomas Says:

    Practice makes perfect, Mac ;)

  63. 63
    barrycuda Says:

you guys are getting the game on Fox??……… baseball on here, dammit

  64. 64
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Let me guess. A bunt?

    It’s on Sportssouth, ‘Cuda.

  65. 65
    Douglass Says:

Ha, if we’re gonna suck as bad as we’ve sucked so far, I’m fine with them just spying on people in the hotel for the rest of the game.

  66. 66
    Robert Says:

Oh man, I’m not in blackout. I assumed the Dodgers and Angels were playing but they’re not.

    Not that I missed anything.

Blanco was out by the way.

  67. 67
    Douglass Says:

Why do you guys think this is a fox broadcast?

Fox broadcasts always start at 3:55 eastern and this week, the games are:

New York Yankees at New York Mets
Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox

  68. 68
    barrycuda Says:

ahhhhh…………sportssouth is another foreign channel here………they might as well be playing in canada.

  69. 69
    Brick Tamland Says:

No blackout issues because the game started at 1 ET … games are only blacked out for FOX when they start between 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. ET.

  70. 70
    Adam M Says:

    Well, he’s out now.

  71. 71
    Brick Tamland Says:

Parrish will face 27 batters today.

  72. 72
    jjschiller Says:

Blacked out on Extra Innings. They don’t show any saturday games that begin before 7.

  73. 73
    Bethany Says:

    Ugh, full count GIDP.

  74. 74
    Brick Tamland Says:

    It’s available on-line.

  75. 75
    Bethany Says:

    Big strike out there.

  76. 76
    Robert Says:

Please pitch around Overbay. Don’t let him beat you.

  77. 77
    Robert Says:

Well, whatever I guess. That could have been a run. I’d much rather take my chances with Barajas there.

  78. 78
    ububba Says:

Those Cleveland mid-’70s unis were also of that technicolor burp variety.

I always felt bad that both Henry Aaron & Frank Robinson had their big ’70s moments wearing those clown outfits.

  79. 79
    Robert Says:

Yeah baby. Andruw would have had that.

  80. 80
    Bethany Says:

Tex runs like he’s got a stick up his rear end… Yay for McCann!

  81. 81
    Stephen Says:

    MaCann the Man!

  82. 82
    Adam M Says:

Two of the three big league hitters in this lineup get the Braves a run. Imagine if they had eight big league hitters in their lineup? Can you imagine what that’d be like? I seem to recall a team like that…

  83. 83
    Robert Says:

    Well, that was dumb.

  84. 84
    Brick Tamland Says:

Like influenza itself, Frenchy’s idiocy is contagious.

  85. 85
    Douglass Says:

    Jeff Francoeur sucks.

Just cuz no one had posted that in this one yet. and he does.

  86. 86
    billy-jay Says:

It’s after 3am. That almost makes me want to stay up for more.

There is more beer in the fridge… but tomorrow’s game hasn’t been rained out yet.

    Oh, the dilemma.

  87. 87
    Tomas Says:

Jeebus, Tex is lumberingly slow. Maybe if he didn’t pull his knees chest high when he is “speeding”. Anyway, counts as a run.

  88. 88
    billy-jay Says:

As much as I’d like to stay up and drink more beer, my instinct tells me this game is going to go 16 innings, so I think I’ll pass.

    Good night, folks.

  89. 89
    Douglass Says:

Barajas delivers a big F you to Robert.

  90. 90
    Stephen Says:

    That sucks….

  91. 91
    Robert Says:

    I guess so. Hanging slider.

  92. 92
    Mac Thomason Says:

Devo Sue McDonald’s Over Happy Meal Toy : Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily

  93. 93
    Douglass Says:

    Yeah, that was a meatball.

Francoeur’s OBP down to .296 on the year, getting painfully close to his 2006 mark of .293.

  94. 94
    Tomas Says:

    Merde, again.

  95. 95
    Mac Thomason Says:

Oh, God, Eckstein ran to first on a walk. I really hate him.

  96. 96
    Douglass Says:

    My thoughts exactly, Mac.

I was just waiting for Joe to gush about it.

  97. 97
    Stephen Says:

Blanco manages to get the job done….

  98. 98
    Robert Says:

C’mon Tex. We need something here.

  99. 99
    Robert Says:

Wouldn’t want McCann batting here. Nah, swapping him with Norton is brilliant.

  100. 100
    Brick Tamland Says:

Sure is nice having McCann batting right after Tex … oh, wait … way to go, Bobby.

  101. 101
    Roberto Petagine Says:

    cmonnnnnnnn that was ball 4

  102. 102
    Hanan Says:

Some pretty close strike calls on Norton.

I thought Tex should have been a little more aggressive even though Sandy Parrish was working around him.

  103. 103
    Stephen Says:

Too bad we couldn’t catch a break. I thought it was Ball 4–as did virtually everyone in the ballpark….

  104. 104
    ryan c Says:

game should be tied….that was definitely ball 4.

  105. 105
    Bethany Says:

Tex is paid to hit, not walk. The pitch to Norton was all four, but seriously… A pop up?

  106. 106
    Robert Says:

Might as well get Hudson out of there. He hangs his slider every time he throws it.

  107. 107
    Brick Tamland Says:

It doesn’t matter as long as Hudson keeps hanging a pitch an inning.

  108. 108
    Stephen Says:

Hudson is definitely not as sharp as he was earlier; we cannot afford to get too far behind….

  109. 109
    Eric Says:

It’s almost like a contest. Let’s see how close we can get to .500 without actually getting there

  110. 110
    Brick Tamland Says:

This will get worse before it gets better. Another “pitching matchup we have no business losing but lose anyway” game.

  111. 111
    Dan Says:

    Francoeur watch:

  112. 112
    csg Says:

Frenchy isnt our biggest problem at the moment. Its having Brandon, Lilli, Gotay, and Norton all in the lineup everyday

  113. 113
    Robert Says:

Frankly we don’t have much business winning any of these games with the lineups we are running out there.

  114. 114
    Robert Says:

    Well, that’s it then.

  115. 115
    braves14 Says:

  116. 116
    Mac Thomason Says:

You know, Hudson is starting to look like a serial killer. And I don’t really blame him.

  117. 117
    Dan Says:

Was that a triple-Grybo or did Barajas count towards Bennett’s ERA?

  118. 118
    Adam M Says:

Francoeur is no better a hitter than Brandon Jones or Greg Norton. At least not this season. He is definitely one of, if not the biggest problem the Braves have–if only because he gets the highest number of plate appearances.

Hudson didn’t look good today and Bennett couldn’t get out of it when he was poised to do so… oh well.

  119. 119
    csg Says:

I guess using Ring or Ohman to some of the lefties isnt a good idea??

  120. 120
    Mac Thomason Says:

    You know who sucks? Francoeur.

  121. 121
    Adam M Says:

    What’s the consensus on Lillibridge?

  122. 122
    csg Says:

    all to Hudson

  123. 123
    Eric Says:

Also Sucks: Gotay, Norton, Frenchy (again), and Lillibridge

  124. 124
    Douglass Says:

    re: 111

Dan, those were his numbers before he went 0-3 today.

    Try .242 / .296 / .390

  125. 125
    Stephen Says:

Lillibridge was hitting .205 at Richmond so nobody should be surprised….I would not mind seeing Diory Hernandez come up instead. I doubt he would be any worse….

  126. 126
    Dan Says:

    I know, Douglass.

When do the Braves say “enough” on this? Geez, if it was some 30+ year old one-year free agent signing they’d have already released him. Why is it so completely unthinkable to the Braves’ management to send Francoeur to the minors?

  127. 127
    Stephen Says:

Blanco has his moments….another hit and this could get interesting….

  128. 128
    mraver Says:

Has Gotay done anything since, like, April?

  129. 129
    Stephen Says:

  130. 130
    Douglass Says:

    Tex is fuggin hot!

  131. 131
    Phillip Says:

    1 run loss coming up!

  132. 132
    Dan Says:

    Another one-run road loss?

  133. 133
    mraver Says:

  134. 134
    Stephen Says:

Tex!! The Second Half is underway….

  135. 135
    Bethany Says:

    Holy crap.

  136. 136
    Robert Says:

Awesome. One run road loss on the way…

  137. 137
    Douglass Says:

Gotay is now hitting .100 on the year from the right side.

  138. 138
    Brick Tamland Says:

Sad that we’re all so beaten down by this team and its one-run loss funk that we can’t get excited by an eighth-inning rally.

  139. 139
    Robert Says:

Due up for the Braves in the ninth: Out, Out and Brandon Jones.

    I don’t expect much.

  140. 140
    Stephen Says:

  141. 141
    mraver Says:

Wait, we’ve got Frenchy, Lillibridge, and B. Jones coming up in the bottom of the 9th?

  142. 142
    Dan Says:

Never mind about the one-run loss. Acosta in to end it…

  143. 143
    jjschiller Says:

This won’t be a one-run loss… not if Manny Acosta has anything to do with…

  144. 144
    Stephen Says:

Its a good thing that the Braves have hidden Stockman at Richmond….

  145. 145
    Dan Says:

Due up for the Braves in the ninth: Out, Out and Brandon Jones.

Against B.J. Ryan that’s likely: Out, Out and Out.

  146. 146
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Well, that was Atrostous.

  147. 147
    aklein Says:

Seriously, Acosta is the suck. Yeah, he can sometimes have a live arm, but he gets shelled EVERY outing.

  148. 148
    Mac Thomason Says:

Seriously, at what point do they realize that Acosta can’t pitch in close games?

  149. 149
    Stephen Says:

“that dude can do deep in a minute”–the Jays announcers have hardly done their homework…

  150. 150
    c. shorter Says:

  151. 151
    ryan c Says:

why does bobby continually put rookie pitchers (or very young pitchers) into extremely tight situations? the payoff just isnt worth the risk of ruining confidence.

  152. 152
    mraver Says:

  153. 153
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Maximum Atrostity.

  154. 154
    Stephen Says:

That was Bobby’s way of getting Acosta to cover for Frenchy….

  155. 155
    joesteve Says:

really, what’s the point bringing in Acosta anymore?

(oh sorry, should have known this observation had already been made)

  156. 156
    Brick Tamland Says:

    Acosta is Spanish for “Resop.”

  157. 157
    csg Says:

yeah Stockman must be real bad

  158. 158
    Adam M Says:

At what point do they realize that Acosta can’t really pitch at all? His ERA is now over 9 for the month of June.

  159. 159
    Mac Thomason Says:

It didn’t matter a whole lot, what with Big Out and Little Out leading off the ninth.

  160. 160
    Hanan Says:

Acosta=Reitsma. He has a live arm and has had sporadic success in the bullpen, so Bobby runs him out there in every buzzkill situation available.

  161. 161
    Bethany Says:

Even when Frenchy has a good count he can’t make solid contact.

  162. 162
    Dan Says:

I honestly can’t decide if I dislike Francoeur, Corky Miller or Acosta the most.

  163. 163
    Parish Says:

  164. 164
    ryan c Says:

francoeur is soooooooooo stupid. 3-1 count 0 outs 0 on down 9-5 and he swings at a borderline pitch.

  165. 165
    Mac Thomason Says:

If you add Francoeur and Lillibridge together, they’re hitting .399. Can they make it to .400?

  166. 166
    Dan Says:

Well Lillibridge did get a hit off B.J. Ryan.

  167. 167
    Parish Says:

Geez. The 9th is going fast.

    Should I be surprised?

On the other hand, go Texas!

    Mac Thomason Says:

Parish, if you add a Canadianism it’s a tribute to a former Jays infielder turned NBA GM.

    mraver Says:

Why not pinch hit for Gotay?! That’s certifiably insane.

    Brick Tamland Says:

Two outs, one on and a four-run deficit in the ninth and we get a bunt attempt.

    Mike Says:

So, instead of hitting for Gotay, Lilli, or Frenchy…Chipper is on deck to hit for KJ.

  172. 172
    Stephen Says:

    Why isn’t Chipper hitting now?

    ryan c Says:

lets see….we could have bases loaded with 1 out…instead we have runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. jeff francoeur kills rally. new slogan: “jeff francoeur: killing rallies since 2005”.

    Parish Says:

Too bad Blanco has wasted this great effort.

    Is he getting hot again?

  175. 175
    Brick Tamland Says:

All this from the same decision-makers who brought you Greg Norton in the 5 slot and Brian McCann batting sixth.

  176. 176
    Parish Says:

Chipper hitting for KJ so we don’t really have to use him.

  177. 177
    Dan Says:

That ninth would have been a lot more fun and interesting if not for Manny Acosta.

I’m tired of Gotay in the lineup…and batting second.

  178. 178
    Stephen Says:

mraver–I couldn’t agree more….if Chipper gets on Kelly Johnson and then Tex are up…it does not make the slightest bit of sense…..

  179. 179
    mraver Says:

My only real guess is that Cox didn’t actually want to use him.

Or some BS about prefering the switch-hitter against the lefty rather than the left-handed batter.

    Mac Thomason Says:

    Recap is up. Francoeur sucks.
