Clinically depressed game thread: June 28, Red Sox at Losers

Oppressed pitcher“Hola, this is Braves starting pitcher Javier Vazquez, and I’m wondering: Do I have to do everything around here?”

“This is Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens, and I’m wondering the same thing. I’m definitely taking extra batting practice.”

“You’re telling me. Who built this offense, the Three Little Pigs?”

“At least you’re a strikeout pitcher. You try letting balls in play for this defense.”

“Ouch. Hey, do you ever feel like hitting Francoeur in the face with a fastball?”

Likewise oppressed pitcher“Wrong question. When do I not feel like hitting him in the face with a fastball?”

“Good point. Still, it’s probably all our fault for not ‘knowing how to win’.”

    Timo Says:

Any word on Hanson pitching tonight?

  2. 2
    CrimeDog Says:

I would be shocked if he does. Apparently, he was feeling pretty terrible yesterday

  3. 3
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

The Indians just sent DeRosa to St Louis for a reliever and a PTBNL. Atlanta should have beat that.

  4. 4
    PWHjort Says:

First of all, let’s reserve judgement on the DeRosa trade until we find out who the PTBNL is. I have a feeling it is a pretty damn good player. Secondly, Chris Perez is a future closer, a very good prospect/player. Third of all, it’s just Mark DeRosa. He’s a good utility player, but not much more.

  5. 5
    JC Says:

In the past 8 games, Matt Diaz has a total of 4 PAs. Jeff Francoeur 26 PAs. Unacceptable.

  6. 6
    PWHjort Says:

    1. Blanco
    2. Johnson
    3. Chipper
    4. McCann
    5. Anderson
    6. Kotchman
    7. Francoeur
    8. Hernandez
    9. Hanson

Once again Diaz on the bench and worthless waste if space in right. I’ve quit trying to understand why.

  7. 7
    Daniel Says:

Medlen is probably starting… not to be confused with probable starter

  8. 8
    Tre Says:

KJ is batting second?!?!? so we start the game with a weak ball hit to second for the first of many double plays.

  9. 9
    Frank Says:

    Matt who?

  10. 10
    marc schneider Says:

TBS is currently showing “The Bad News Bears”, aka the 2009 Atlanta Braves.

  11. 11
spike (back in the ATL) Says:

The Bad News Bears actually won a bunch of ballgames and was in the championship. Don’t see that happening here.

  12. 12
    Frank fl Says:

Matt holliday for schafer? Platune francour and Anderson in left

  13. 13
    Tre Says:

hey Hanson sucked it up & is pitching

  14. 14
    desert Says:

Why, oh why am I hearing a “Let’s go Red Sox” in the background? Why?

  15. 15
    PWHjort Says:

Why does nobody ever tell Bobby Cox: “You can’t do that”. You can’t use injury prone relievers coming off major surgeries 4 days in a row. You can’t start a 22 year old phenom when he has the Flu. And you can’t keep playing Jeff Francoeur because he sucks.

  16. 16
    desert Says:

No, it is not Ken Medlen.

  17. 17
    Tre Says:

    ok 8 innings left

  18. 18
    Daniel Says:

    Let’s go Red Stockings!

  19. 19
    Adam M Says:

    “Here’s Jeff Francoeur… he’s first-pitch swinging… he’s in the hole…”

And this just in: water is still wet.

  20. 20
    Daniel Says:

Don’t worry. Francoeur is okay. He will not miss any subsequent starts.

  21. 21
    Boomer Says:

In high school I watched someone almost die taking a ball to the head. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

  22. 22
    bandit31312 Says:

wait Braves radio just brave 1 sox 0???

  23. 23
    Tre Says:

KJ even screwed up bunting & made it almost into a double play…TALENT!!!

  24. 24
    Rob Cope Says:

In high school I watched players that were much better than Jeff Francoeur.

  25. 25
    JC Says:

Is it the ninth inning? No, just typical playing-for-one-run ball in the third from Bobby.

  26. 26
    Tony Says:

What a way to try to get the runner out at 3rd, Garrett.

  27. 27
    Tre Says:

@ 26 he is the poster child for hustle

  28. 28
    Tre Says:

    smells like meltdown

  29. 29
    Adam M Says:

Hanson continues to have trouble putting batters away while ahead in the count.

  30. 30
    ububba Says:

How in the world was that not strike 3 on Varitek?

  31. 31
    Tre Says:

that ump was staring at the hot chick in the centerfield seats

  32. 32
    PWHjort Says:

    Hanson had him struck out.

  33. 33
    Timo Says:

    ububba… unbelievable!!

  34. 34
    Mac Thomason Says:

I don’t know what’s more amazing, or less likely to hold up, that the Braves are winning — or that the Americans are beating Brazil.

  35. 35
    Daniel Says:

Red Sox fans are a plague…

  36. 36
    Frank fl Says:

Garrett Anderson looks like he is a mute

  37. 37
    Timo Says:

garrett anderson looks like denzel washington!

  38. 38
    ububba Says:

    The ACHE comes through.

Thanks, Mac. Now I’m watching soccer.

Sounds like the Killer Bees are attending the soccer match.

  39. 39
    Tre Says:

he didnt swing at the first pitch!!

  40. 40
    Tre Says:

    the soocre game is early

  41. 41
    Frank fl Says:

    OMB garrett Anderson just smiled

  42. 42
    Mac Thomason Says:

So Francoeur is the Red Sox’s fault!

  43. 43
    ububba Says:

    2-0 USA

  44. 44
    csg Says:

I bet the Red Sox are getting frustrated with Bobby, usually we have a sacrifice every other inning. Most teams only have to make two outs against us per inning. Bobby is making them get 3 in all but the 3rd

  45. 45
    Frank fl Says:

  46. 46
    Remy Says:

    USA leads 2-0.

  47. 47
    Tre Says:

dear god………we all know better than that….i guess you really cant fix stupid

  48. 48
    Frank Says:

How do you say “a Yunel” in French?

  49. 49
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Francoeur sucks.

  50. 50
    csg Says:

Francoeur, word of advice, you cant advance to 3rd on a ball hit to SS

  51. 51
    Adam M Says:

    Nice work by Francoeur, there.

  52. 52
    Tre Says:

whoever designed the Americans soccer uni’s must have put alot of thought into the all white.

  53. 53
    Frank fl Says:

Please frank wren do something before the phillies get here

  54. 54
    Timo Says:

The last thing I want is Tommy hanging around on the bases.

  55. 55
    Tre Says:

Frenchy was destined to get out this inning anyways..he reached on an error & had to right the ship & manufacture the out

  56. 56
    desert Says:

    “Brazil are beginning to bitch.”

I kid you not, go check on their gamecast.

  57. 57
    Tre Says:

@56 is that on the website?

  58. 58
    Tre Says:

WTF is “Brazil are beginning to bitch”? is that some soccer term?

  59. 59
spike (back in the ATL) Says:

    See above

  60. 60
    Adam M Says:

Between Chipper and Anderson there is a lot of space for opposing batters to put balls. I love this team!

  61. 61
    Tre Says:

    that was a fast inning

  62. 62
    Mac Thomason Says:

Way to make him work, guys.

  63. 63
    anonymous lurker Says:

    Hey–they scored their 2 runs. It’s hot.

  64. 64
    Timo Says:

6-pitch inning. Thanks for giving Hanson some time to enwind.

  65. 65
    Tre Says:

does this annoucer sound kinda like Bob Hope? or is it just me?

  66. 66
    Timo Says:

you gotta be kiddin’ me!! what is wrong with the ump??!!

  67. 67
    Tre Says:

what the hell was wrong with that pitch?

  68. 68
    csg Says:

have the umps lost all recognition of the strike zone?

  69. 69
Alex Remington (Another Alex R.) Says:

You know, I’m beginning to like this Hanson kid.

    Finally, the ump calls one!

  70. 70
    Tre Says:

    hey he called one!!!

  71. 71
    Timo Says:

    Great game by Hanson!

  72. 72
    Daniel Says:

Hanson stepped on the chalkline… what a badass!

  73. 73
    ububba Says:

The legend of Tommy Hanson grows.

  74. 74
    ryan c Says:

see, javy and jair, get some advice from tommy. that’s 20 straight SCORELESS innings. if you give up runs, you’re doomed.

  75. 75
    PWHjort Says:

    Brazil just scored.

  76. 76
    ryan c Says:

jordan schafer back in gwinnett’s lineup. he is 1 for 2 with a stolen base in the 5th.

  77. 77
    csg Says:

you know, our LF production isnt that bad

  78. 78
    Tre Says:

hope jeffy saw how ACHE went back to second

  79. 79
    Frank fl Says:

    Bet they dont score

  80. 80
    Timo Says:

At times Kotchman has the most awkward swings.

  81. 81
    PWHjort Says:

    Francoeur is so worthless.

  82. 82
    Tre Says:

i love how jeff bennett cant come in screw this up

  83. 83
    desert Says:

Penny still bringing the heat with 95-96 mph fastballs…

  84. 84
Alex Remington (Another Alex R.) Says:

    Me too, Tre.

  85. 85
    csg Says:

    way to be lazy Jeff

  86. 86
    Tre Says:

dear god THOSE TWO ARE WORTHLESS!!!!!!!

  87. 87
    ryan c Says:

get those fucking bums out of there at 2nd and right.

  88. 88
    Daniel Says:

    I M P L O S I O N ! ! !

  89. 89
    Timo Says:

  90. 90
    Tre Says:

has a pitching staff ever gone on strike??? and the key to beating the braves is simply pressure their D & watch them buckle

  91. 91
    Ron E. Says:

If Kelly is trying to make me hate him as much as Francoeur, he’s succeeding.

  92. 92
    Tre Says:

should have been out of this inning 10 mins ago

  93. 93
    Tom Says:

    Thank God for Moylan.

  94. 94
    Timo Says:

    Good to see Moylan back!!

  95. 95
    Mac Thomason Says:

If you’re a Brazilian athlete, and you have two names, does that mean you suck?

  96. 96
    Tre Says:

Mac one of them is names Kaka

  97. 97
    mraver Says:

Way to clean up your own mess there, KJ.

Speaking of that play, I’m shocked that Ellsbury wasn’t running. Moylan is crap at holding runners, and Ellsbury is one of the better base stealers out there. Seems like a relatively easy call to me.

  98. 98
    Frank fl Says:

    Bring up heyward

  99. 99
    Mac Thomason Says:

I’d noticed that. I assume he stinks.

  100. 100
    Tre Says:

check out the sign on about Mr.Kaka

  101. 101
    Tre Says:

9 for 72…and he plays major league ball…..

  102. 102
    desert Says:

Anybody else notice, and wonder why, Soriano is wearing long-sleeves in this weather?

  103. 103
    Tre Says:

is that three stolen bases today?

  104. 104
    Tre Says:

    soccer game is tied

  105. 105
    Tre Says:

    Brazil is winning

  106. 106
    Tom Says:

Phillies just won. Toronto hat 2 on, nobody out against Lidge. Then a popup, then they picked the runner off second (!), then a groundout to end it. So 5 back at best today.

  107. 107
    Tom Says:

You guys from the US are not watching soccer, are you?

  108. 108
    Tre Says:

whats soccer? this chant is making me sick

  109. 109
    desert Says:

Definitely agree, Tre. Go away, Boston.

  110. 110
    ububba Says:

I was watching the soccer. Tough loss, but Brazil is certainly great. That comeback was impressive and they even got robbed a goal. Shoulda been 4-2.

C’mon, Gonzo. Let’s put ’em away.

  111. 111
    Tre Says:

god not again!! c’mon Braves fans

  112. 112
    Frank fl Says:

This ump will not call a breaking ball for a strike

  113. 113
    ububba Says:

    Nasty pitch there on Bay.

  114. 114
    Tre Says:

if i hear Chip say the sox are clutch one more time i,m going on a killing spree

  115. 115
    ububba Says:

Get your head out of your ass, KJ.

  116. 116
    Johnny Says:

US loses 3 to 2. Can’t finish. Dang it. Great match though. Brazilians are just fantastic soccer players.

  117. 117
    Grst Says:

What the hell. Just flip it to second, idiot.

  118. 118
    Tre Says:

    everyone tell KJ thank you

  119. 119
    desert Says:

You know what I’m one swing of the bat away from, Chip?

Bashing your freakin’ head into the wall.

  120. 120
    Tre Says:

  121. 121
    PWHjort Says:

Wasn’t all Kelly’s fault. I mean, it was incredibly stupid to not just get the 4-6-3 in the first place, but the other 2 infielders contributed to the botched run down. Mostly Kelly’s fault.

  122. 122
    ububba Says:

Ortiz was running. It’s an easy DP. Forget Youk.

    Thanks, Gonzo.

  123. 123
    Tom Says:

    Thank you Lord.

  124. 124
    csg Says:

PWH, yes it was. If he flips to 2nd its and easy DP

  125. 125
    Adam M Says:

The radio announcers said he played it perfectly, but then, I tend not to believe them. They also worked overtime to argue Francoeur is a great base runner despite his gaffe earlier, so…

    At least we’ve salvaged one.

  126. 126
    ububba Says:

KJ’s gotta know the situation. Youk did exactly what he’s supposed to do, which is sucker the 2B into chasing him.

  127. 127
    Tom Says:

I wonder what Tom Glavine must be thinking right now. “I was gonna give them 20.3 shutout innings in a row as well” or what?

  128. 128
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Recap is up.
