    It has been a while.

Still, still looking for that blue jeaned baby queen: prettiest girl I’ve ever seen. See her face on the movie screen with Jimmy Dean.

    csg Says:

    @ajcbraves: #Braves re-sign Sept/Oct surprise Freddy Garcia to minor-league deal, provides another 5th-starter option

  3. 3
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

Can’t have too many fungible #5s in the wings.

  4. 4
    AtlCrackersFan Says:

With Beachy’s return a ? and Wood a relatively untested starter/reliever, hanging on to Garcia looks smart. Given the price tag mentioned, I presume he doesn’t spend the season with Gwinnett.

I notice Maholm hasn’t had any takers thus far!

  5. 5
    Edward Says:

Maholm should go to the Yankers so McCann can back him up against any Gomez-alikes lurking in the American League.

Are there any such creatures out there?

  6. 6
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

I predict that Freddy Garcia will provide more value, as per pitching WAR, in 2014, than does Eric O’Flaherty.

  7. 7
    ryan c Says:

I sure hope that prediction does not become true.

  8. 8
    Rusty S. Says:

I’d take those 20 guys for Kimbrel.

  9. 9
    ryan c Says:

Garcia has an opt-out clause in his contract if not with the big league club by 3/25.

    Smitty Says:

Let’s do Heyward and Kimbrel for Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton-make it happen Wren

  11. 11
Alex Remington (Another Alex R.) Says:

@6, I think that’s very possibly true, but it will depend a lot on when O’Flaherty comes off the shelf.

    Rob Cope Says:

I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Garcia will be more valuable than O’Flaherty. If Garcia pitches, it’s because we really need him. If he’s league average for 10 starts, he may very well have more WAR than O’Flaherty and his half-season of middle relief.

Better question, will Alex Wood have more WAR than O’Flaherty?

  14. 14
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

I have this crazy, pre-spring notion that Freddie Garcia is going to be our Roberto Hernandez/El Duque/random mediocre starter turned lights out long man for a while. It’s almost certainly just wishcasting, but hell, it’s January, it’s balls-achingly cold outside, and Ima run with that until it breaks.

  15. 15
    Dan Says:

Or how about the Braves simply keep Kimbrel?

    Yeah, let’s go with that.

    Anon21 Says:

15: If they got offered any of these guys straight-up for Kimbrel, they’d be fools not to do it. Anyway, they only have him for two more seasons, tops—they are not going to pay his arb-3 salary.

  17. 17
    csg Says:

If he gets $9 mil in arbitration this year, we may not pay him next year. I wonder if the Braves would consider a 3/30 deal for him. He may not accept since he would lose $5mil or so, but it would eliminate some financial risk for both parties.

  18. 18
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

If he’d accept 3/30 sign him. (He won’t. He’s asking for 9 in arb ONE.) If he wins arb this year, you punt him in 2015.

  19. 19
    Nick Says:

I’m still getting a Major League ready player for him when/if I trade him. Now, I’m guessing some of the players at the top of this list are, but they’re also probably not gonna be traded. In general, I can’t tell you how much I hate the “trade Kimbrel for prospects” thing. Who in the hell wants prospects when we’re trying to win now? You don’t intentionally make your team worse.

  20. 20
    Sam Hutcheson Says:

IF you can turn Kimbrel into Byron Buxton you do it immediately and without hesitation.

A month away from ST opener! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Alex Remington (Another Alex R.) Says:

@20, absolutely. By the same token, though, if the Twins were offered the chance to trade the best prospect in baseball for the best closer in baseball, they would say no immediately and without hesitation.

    New thread.
