A rule the Braves may not have been aware of

In order to win a contested baseball game, you must score at least one run.

    First!

  2. 2
Alex Remington (Another Alex R.) Says:

You know, I wouldn’t mind the return of wun, Gadfly, and Coach, if the Braves would only score five runs tonight.

  3. 3
    braves14 Says:

Prepare to be angry: Melky is batting 5th.

    #Brave lineup 1. Infante 3B, 2. Heywrd RF, 3. Lee 1B, 4. McCann C, 5. Cabrera LF, 6. Conrad 2B, 7. Gnzlez SS, 8. Ankiel CF, 9. Hanson

  4. 4
    Dan Says:

If the Braves win tonight, I’ll actually feel pretty good about this series.

Of course, they’ll probably score zero runs. The AAA Braves’ offense might be a better bet at this point.

  5. 5
    Brian J. Says:

Wait, these aren’t the AAA Braves?

  6. 6
    braves14 Says:

Hinske obviously doesn’t have the pictures.

  7. 7
    Stu Says:

    Baffling.

  8. 8
    Brian J. Says:

Well, the Phillies sure won’t get two no-hitters now!

  9. 9
    RobBroad4th Says:

    We’ve been Melk’d.

  10. 10
    Ron E. Says:

The Braves showed in September that without Chipper and Prado they are quite capable of losing at home, so even if they win today, I’ll still be highly skeptical of their chances at taking the series.

I hope at some point Vasquez gives up a homer that keeps the Yankees from reaching the World Series. That would at least partly compensate us for having to spend an entire year watching Bobby run out Melky to start.

  11. 11
    Smitty Says:

It is the start of MELK-TOBER!

  12. 12
    Catz Says:

Well Hanson’s pitching tonight, so the chances of any scoring are slim

  13. 13
    ryan c Says:

i cant figure out who i’m more mad at: bobby or melky.

  14. 14
    Robert Says:

Of the three guys below Melky, who do you want there instead?

  15. 15
    Tony Says:

My oh my….why can’t Bobby split up the futility in the bttm of the order? Bat Melky, Conrad or Ankiel 2nd to bunt…at this point they are all the same.

  16. 16
    ryan c Says:

ya know what we’re going to see tonight? jason heyward square to bunt. and do you know what i’m going to do? vomit.

  17. 17
    c. shorter Says:

I’m hoping for some Melktober magic, but I’m not expecting the Braves to score any runs this series. It’s a distinct possibility and I’m trying to not get my hopes up.

  18. 18
    Brian J. Says:

17- “Melktober magic” reminds me of the Joker from The Dark Knight, and will probably be about as good for our sanity. “Watch me make this offense disappear!”

  19. 19
    John Gaines Says:

I’m not even going to bother with being frustrated at this line-up anymore. It’s not like Bobby could do that much better with the current roster. No, it’s time to just sit back, and take in Melktober.

  20. 20
    spike Says:

    @18 – Why so serious?

  21. 21
    csg Says:

“It’s not like Bobby could do that much better with the current roster.” – John

    I kind of disagree

    Infante
    Heyward
    Lee
    Bmac
    Glaus
    Hinske
    AAG
    McLouth

is an immediate improvement offensively…we are going to piss away the game in the field either way so at least give us a fighting chance offensively

  22. 22
    Nick Says:

I really don’t get why we haven’t started Glaus or Hinske during this stretch of extremely poor hitting, either. They will at least provide some power, perhaps force pitchers into making some decisions, etc. It certainly couldn’t hurt. I don’t think Hinske is any worse defensively in left than Diaz, Cabrera or McLouth, nor do I think Glaus is any worse at third than Conrad or Infante.

  23. 23
    Stu Says:

What happened to the pitch-tracker graphic on TBS?

  24. 24
    Dan Says:

More likely to occur: no errors from Conrad and Infante or a Cabrera RBI?

  25. 25
    Robert Says:

Hinske must be hurt or something that limits him to pinch hitting duties. He hasn’t played the field since Sept 7.

  26. 26
    JoeyT Says:

@24, Melkster could get hit by a pitch and get an RBI, so I vote for that.

  27. 27
    Stu Says:

25—I think Cox just doesn’t trust him out there, which would be more understandable if we didn’t see Cox run Melky out there in center.

  28. 28
    RobBroad4th Says:

I never knew that our starting shortstop had a music career: http://www.google.com/m/search?site=images&source=mog&hl=en&gl=us&client=safari&q=drake#i=1

  29. 29
    Rusty S. Says:

Soapbox: Why did Baker double switch, if he wasn’t going to send Ondrusek back out anyway? Just pinch hit for Ondrusek.

By not double switching, you have the flexibility to send up an infielder instead of locking yourself in with Heisey, you also don’t announce to Manuel in advance who is batting in the 9 spot so it’s not as easy for him to set up his bullpen, you also even have the option to leave Ondrusek in to bunt if the leadoff guy gets on. And you can still bat Heisey if that’s the best move a the time.

Now the lefty Nix is out, who undoubtedly would have faced Madsen or Lidge. And now you will have to pinch hit for what should have been your 5 hitter. And all because he didn’t want to burn a pitcher he didn’t even end up sending back to the mound.

Really, why does anyone double switch any more with 7 man bullpens?

  30. 30
    Stu Says:

The Phillies are so much better than any other NL team in these playoffs.

  31. 31
    Brian J. Says:

The Reds have borrowed our gloves in the bottom of the 7th. (Aroldis Chapman’s fastball has been “off”- that is, 99-101 mph.)

  32. 32
    Catz Says:

I would dare to say the Reds just demonstrated defense worse than the Braves’.

  33. 33
    braves14 Says:

That looked like something we would do.

  34. 34
    braves14 Says:

29 — Remember, Dusty Baker is the guy who doesn’t like to clog up the bases.

  35. 35
    Catz Says:

I mean that rivals some of Melky’s Greatest Hits.

  36. 36
    jj3bagger Says:

Just going to say that. The Reds have played far worse I think. You don’t expect Infante and Conrad to make a ton of plays, but you do expect Rolen and Phillips to, and you expect Bruce to catch a routine fly ball. Epic meltdown in the 7th.

  37. 37
    drewdat Says:

Why does every team in the National League play like they have money on the Phillies? This one has been nothing they’ve done.

Utley may have in fact been out at both second and third base, lucky team.

  38. 38
    RobBroad4th Says:

4 errors for Cincinatti. Boy oh boy.

  39. 39
    Brian J. Says:

Utley shouldn’t have been on base to begin with, with his phantom HBP.

  40. 40
    Stu Says:

And I’m still not convinced he was safe at second. And he may not have touched third base before scoring.

  41. 41
    drewdat Says:

Good point, I wasn’t sure it touched him either. Philadelphia gets rewarded for lying and bad baserunning, what else is new? Don’t think the rules have applied to them since the ASB, and it’s foolish to stand in their way at this point.

  42. 42
    Smitty Says:

I think fans should start protesting MLB to fire some umpires.

  43. 43
    jj3bagger Says:

Why wouldn’t every home playoff team wave those stupid white hankies while their team is hitting and hope the other team’s outfielders would lose one ?

I happen to think that the umpiring is usually atrocious, people just complain about it more when it happens to their team in the playoffs, like us last night.

  44. 44
    RobBroad4th Says:

I don’t know If this has been mentioned, but Buster Posey looked out yesterday.

  45. 45
    TheFlyingBernard Says:

On Utley’s HBP, I don’t think the pitch came within 3 inches of him. And, has been mentioned before, he was out at 2nd. And he missed third, but that’s not on the umps unless the Reds appeal, which they didn’t. Quite the trifecta!

  46. 46
    Stu Says:

Yeah, on the HBP, it looked like the hand that *might* have gotten hit (the right one) was not the one he was holding with a grimace at first base.

  47. 47
    CourtneyC Says:

Awesome. The Braves are circumventing one of the dumbest movies of all time: Titantic. There is at least some justice in the world.

  48. 48
    jj3bagger Says:

This fucking baseball game better not come and interrupt me in the middle of Titanic.

  49. 49
    Dix Says:

either way, we’re watching a sinking ship

  50. 50
    Brian J. Says:

47/ 48- Have you two met?

  51. 51
    Smitty Says:

    @48,

    ha ha ha ha ha

    It’s Melk-tober

  52. 52
    Brian J. Says:

But Dane Cook hasn’t told us how many Melktobers there are!

  53. 53
    csg Says:

the pitch didnt hit utley, he was out at 2nd, and yes he missed 3rd

  54. 54
    Smitty Says:

There are, in fact, four Melk-tobers

  55. 55
    Stu Says:

    One for each 150 pounds.

  56. 56
    drewdat Says:

At least for one day, Chase Utley knows how Les Miles feels.

  57. 57
    Smitty Says:

Melk-tober will be splash down number 56! IT will be a cannon ball and will kill those people in boats.

    Im pumped!

  58. 58
    CourtneyC Says:

Derek Lowe is way too old to have his haircut.

  59. 59
    Stu Says:

Omar swung at a first pitch! This is a new day!

  60. 60
    Dix Says:

    uh oh….

  61. 61
    csg Says:

Omar breaking up the no no

  62. 62
    CourtneyC Says:

    Bunt, Jason! Bunt!!

  63. 63
    ryan c Says:

watch the bunt and get ready to scream.

  64. 64
    Smitty Says:

    bunt

  65. 65
    Catz Says:

Wow, another leadoff hit! Prediction: he doesn’t even get to third base.

  66. 66
    Smitty Says:

I like the hit and run

  67. 67
    csg Says:

    a hit an run? what?

  68. 68
    Smitty Says:

    a break?

  69. 69
    CourtneyC Says:

“Bobby Cox feels this is going to be another low scoring ball game.”

I’m sure he’s felt that way since Prado went down.

  70. 70
    csg Says:

what? they just trying to even the playing field?

Jason is missing a LOT of pitches

  71. 71
    Dan Says:

The bunt would have been better than that.

  72. 72
    Stu Says:

Heyward, to Posey: “Take some of that.”

  73. 73
    Tony Says:

    Terrible at-bat by Heyward…

    Did he just say McCain???

  74. 74
    CourtneyC Says:

He wants to get to Melky.

  75. 75
    Brian J. Says:

    Yay, we’ve cleared Melky!

  76. 76
    Dan Says:

Intentional unintentional walk to McCann to get to Melky Cabrera?

  77. 77
    Stu Says:

Walking McCann to get to the 5 consecutive pitchers.

  78. 78
    Catz Says:

At least someone isn’t swinging at everything.

  79. 79
    csg Says:

Melky up to drive em in?

4 pitch walk by Bmac, Melky will swing at the 1st pitch

  80. 80
    CourtneyC Says:

Dear Melky: just imagine the ball is trying to take your cheeseburger.

  81. 81
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Melky sucks.

  82. 82
    Alex R. Says:

Melky hitting fifth is equivalent to Charlie Liebrandt facing Kirby Puckett. I won’t miss Bobby.

  83. 83
    ryan c Says:

MELKTOBER BEGINS the same way melktember, melch, melpril, and all of the other melkmonths of the frickin’ baseball season.

    SHITTY!

  84. 84
    drewdat Says:

Alex, to be fair, hitting anyone fifth not already listed 1-4 would be similar.

I was thinking about how abysmal our lineup is, and it struck me that the injuries to Chipper and Prado have really just masked/exacerbated our inabilities to fix the holes at CF, LF, and (lesser extent) SS.

  85. 85
    csg Says:

drewdat – i think you forgot that we traded Yunel for AAG. He’s got 23 HR’s

  86. 86
    Tony Says:

    Good grief Reds…

  87. 87
    drewdat Says:

    Statue.

csg, Yunel was the hole at SS. AAG hasn’t been as bad of a replacement as Ankiel, perhaps, but I wouldn’t call his performance for the Braves a particular strength of ours.

  88. 88
    Brian J. Says:

85- Only six as a Brave (and Yunel hit four in Toronto). With a glove of stone and no plate discipline, AAG has not been any kind of upgrade.

  89. 89
    csg Says:

it was 100% sarcasm, everyone knows that AAG sucks

  90. 90
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Hanson looks filthy.

  91. 91
    Mac Thomason Says:

Those Cheetos-colored uniforms are going to make Melky salivate so much he’ll be dehydrated by the third.

  92. 92
    stupup74 Says:

Make the world a better place…..punch Melky Cabera in the face.

  93. 93
    drewdat Says:

Brian J, but AAG displays his petulance and disappointment in a way that is much more palatable to the team than Yunel. The value is immeasurable.

  94. 94
    Brian J. Says:

Sorry, csg. But there are still people here who post that with all sincerity.

Hanson’s doing the right thing by simply trying to take the Giants down himself. Just assume that our IF has money on San Francisco, Tommy.

  95. 95
    Brian J. Says:

    Ballgame.

  96. 96
    csg Says:

I still remember DOB talking about it going down as one of the best Braves trades ever…another reason I hate that place

    well this game is over

  97. 97
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Nevermind.

  98. 98
    Catz Says:

    ballgame

  99. 99
    Parish Says:

    Oi.

  100. 100
    Dan Says:

Burrell was just available and the Braves didn’t add him.

  101. 101
    Tony Says:

Man I wondered would Hanson be as good as Lowe was last night….question answered. A stupid 95mph fastball…lol

  102. 102
    csg Says:

    101 – nope, 95 mph fastball

one thing you dont throw Burrell is a 1st pitch fastball, ever

  103. 103
    DowneasterJC Says:

So.. Where do we go from here?

  104. 104
    csg Says:

back to ATL for Bobby’s last game

  105. 105
    Smitty Says:

Why did McCann call a first pitch fastball?

  106. 106
    JustinB Says:

I think I’ll just stay on TNT and watch the other sinking ship.

  107. 107
    Alex R. Says:

    #90

Yes, filthy…I feel dirty now after that 3 run homer. And Dick Stockton just basically buries us and seems to already be previewing Giants-Phillies. Asshole. Go watch “Matlock”, old codger.

  108. 108
    Brian J. Says:

TNT has gone back to airing the other sinking ship.

  109. 109
    thefreak Says:

are you kidding me conrad !!!

  110. 110
    Alex R. Says:

    #104

To add insult to injury, the Giants will give Bobby a going away present before the game starts on Sunday.

  111. 111
    Alex R. Says:

    #107

    RIMSHOT!

  112. 112
    Smitty Says:

    Bobby trying to get tossed.

  113. 113
    Brian J. Says:

Thank you, AAG, for demonstrating the difference between a Major League shortstop and… you.

  114. 114
    csg Says:

    Huff was off the bag

  115. 115
    Smitty Says:

No way he kept the base

  116. 116
    drewdat Says:

The good news: lot of baseball left. The bad? The Braves offense is horrible at baseball.

  117. 117
    DowneasterJC Says:

Please throw out AAG. I will never complain about umpires again.

  118. 118
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Great umpiring.

  119. 119
    Smitty Says:

    Paul Emmel blows donkeys.

  120. 120
    Parish Says:

I think Huff held the bag.

  121. 121
    Alex R. Says:

Ok, Bobby ejected. Hey, replacement manager…will you please take Melky out of the 5th spot? Thanks a bunch.

  122. 122
    Catz Says:

Hey, Ankiel got a hit! Of course, when it doesn’t matter.

  123. 123
    Dan Says:

The Giants’ three runs in the first inning: more than the Braves will score the entire series?

  124. 124
    Tony Says:

    Cain looks hittable at least…

  125. 125
    Rusty S. Says:

That call was a donkey? :)

  126. 126
    drewdat Says:

Yeah, he was off the bag. I have learned to believe the opposite of AAG, but he may have had a case. Of course, if he was running 100%, he wouldn’t have been able to see Huff’s foot.

  127. 127
    Smitty Says:

Huff kept the base like Posey was safe last night

  128. 128
    Parish Says:

Same umpire as the ridiculous stolen base call last night. AAG should have been safe because he owes us way more than that.

  129. 129
    csg Says:

could they possibly find worse umpires for these playoffs?

  130. 130
    Dix Says:

    @121

3 more than the Braves will get all series

  131. 131
    RobBroad4th Says:

@124, Excellent point. He was hardly busting down the line.

  132. 132
    Alex R. Says:

Tommy Hanson may lose, but I predict he outhits Melky tonight. And Alex Gonzalez, too.

  133. 133
    thefreak Says:

at least ask for help says the coach to the blind man !!!

  134. 134
    Alex R. Says:

    #127

Bud Selig probably handpicked this idiot. Takes one to know one I guess.

  135. 135
    Smitty Says:

Bill Hohn would have thrown Chipper out there too

  136. 136
    Tony Says:

Bobby got thrown out b/c he was so pissed he put fat boy in the 5 hole.

  137. 137
    drewdat Says:

    @132

    And O’Flaherty, back in Atlanta.

Just thinking about instant replay, doubt you could have overturned, because Huff could have scraped the bag or something. .01% chance, but I bet it would have stood up.

  138. 138
    Parish Says:

After seeing like 5 times, I think Huff was off barely. It’s hardly conclusive with the luxury of a replay, so it’s not nearly as bad a call as last night’s.

  139. 139
    Tony Says:

    LMAO….

  140. 140
    Brian J. Says:

133- Like an admiral atoning for his mistakes by going down with the ship.

  141. 141
    CourtneyC Says:

Things to look forward to post Pat Burrell’s home run:

    -Bobby’s last emotional last game.
-Melky being arrested for armed robery of a little debbie’s delevery truck in the offseason.
-Wren finding a real left fielder.
-Fredie Freeman’s home run in his first at-bat on opening day.
    - Remembering what it feels like to have a 100 rbi player who is not Frenchy.
-Kimbrel or Venters leading the league in saves.
    -A promising Falcon’s season
    -Another Alabama National Championship
    -A medicore Hawks’ season
    -Watching LaBron and D-Wade fail.
-Chipper announcing his retirement in Febuary, so he doesn’t get humilated trying to come back.
-Instant Replay in baseball (it will happen).
    -Another Miley Cyrus movie.

  142. 142
    drewdat Says:

LOL at the Melky stagger. I guess it is getting to be about that time on the east coast.

  143. 143
    jdpeace Says:

Hey. Melky didn’t ACTUALLY fall down trying to make a routine play. He just ALMOST fell down.

  144. 144
    drewdat Says:

    Potted plant.

  145. 145
    Brian J. Says:

Oh, this is just adding insult to injury now.

  146. 146
    Rusty S. Says:

If Melky had fallen over, California would have fallen into the ocean…

  147. 147
    MikeM Says:

    This bites.

  148. 148
    DowneasterJC Says:

Apparantly bad defense in LF is more palatable when you can’t hit either. God the Braves should have given their spot to the Padres and their fans.

  149. 149
    ryan c Says:

i’m ready for this season to be over. i just pray that the braves trade aag for something.

  150. 150
    Tony Says:

Now Melky thinks he is the MAN…LMAO

  151. 151
    CourtneyC Says:

Did Melky just make a good defensive play?

  152. 152
    thefreak Says:

yea that was a hit by the pitcher

  153. 153
    drewdat Says:

By my unofficial calculations, Melky and AAG have already cost us at least 8 runs in this game.

Melky made a routine play. Cain wasn’t exactly running the bases cautiously there.

  154. 154
    Smitty Says:

These guys umpire games for a living. They are supposed to be the “best of the best” We constantly hear how hard their jobs are and how they train and put on clinics. How they usually get the call right.

They get the easy ones right, but I think they miss a lot of “tough” ones they would get right if they would get in better position. I don’t want to ever hear umpires whine again.

  155. 155
    thefreak Says:

wow melky knew what to do when he got the ball !!!

  156. 156
    braves14 Says:

At this point, we’ll be lucky to score a run in this series.

  157. 157
    jdpeace Says:

Our ineptitude has become comical. We have a fat kid in the outfield. This means we are going to come back and win the big game. I hate that it took me this long to see its inevitability.

  158. 158
    drewdat Says:

So Melky has an Angel? Maybe that’s why he stumbled, the Angel was loading him up for a super spin throw to nail Ross at second, but Melky screwed it up. Typical.

  159. 159
    CourtneyC Says:

The sad thing is, Francouer would improve this lineup.

  160. 160
    Alex R. Says:

How the hell did we make the playoffs, again?

Ohhh, classy Giant fans again chanting “Posey’s better”. I don’t even think Phillies fans would act like this.

  161. 161
    Dan Says:

I never understood the confidence in Tommy Hanson. It feels like he has these dud games every other time he pitches.

  162. 162
    Smitty Says:

Melky’s Angel? sounds like a bad Adam Sandler movie

  163. 163
    Tony Says:

I can’t wait to see Heyward when he is completely healed next year.

  164. 164
    MikeM Says:

Those are the same fans who pulled for Barry Bonds when the whole world knew he was a douche.

  165. 165
    CourtneyC Says:

@152 Agreed. We need to hire Buttermaker to teach us how to play defence before the Sunday game, then the series is all ours.

  166. 166
    drewdat Says:

That’s a ball. These umps blow.

  167. 167
    Smitty Says:

    How was that a strike?

  168. 168
    Rip Says:

Anybody think bobby getting tossed is a good thing?
these unintentional intentional walks have been killing us for the big inning for 3 weeks
hanson wussed out on posey AB – go after him dude – as a man – dont you want to challenge a rook. He pitched to posey like he was barry bonds.

  169. 169
    drewdat Says:

Ump missed a strike to Posey too, would have been 2-1, not 3-0 before the walk.

  170. 170
    Smitty Says:

That was a strike to Heyward

  171. 171
    Tony Says:

Cain will get the corners. These umps know the Braves are not going to score, why waste everyone’s time.

  172. 172
    Dan Says:

Can’t even get any hope. Come on, at least get two runners on so I can be delusional that they’ll have a multi-run inning.

  173. 173
    Rip Says:

Ironic The Titanic is on TNT…feels like what is going on on TBS

  174. 174
    ryan c Says:

is anyone drunk? is it easier to take the ineptitude inebriated?

  175. 175
    Parish Says:

Pitchtrax said the strike three to Heyward was a ball.

  176. 176
    Brian J. Says:

Well, as our genial host has said, “If we had hope, we’d really be screwed.”

And if we had middle infielders, we’d only have two or three holes to fill.

  177. 177
    Rip Says:

    Bean Posey

  178. 178
    CourtneyC Says:

Ok, Conrad… make that play with a runner on 2nd please.

  179. 179
    jdpeace Says:

I’m pretty drunk and it just makes the suckiness blurry.

  180. 180
    Dix Says:

    @171

that’s a problem shared by about 51% of the world population….

  181. 181
    Brian J. Says:

Melky, our left fielder [sic] and #5 hitter [sic], ladies and gentlemen.

  182. 182
    Rusty S. Says:

It’s a long way to Melktober.

  183. 183
    drewdat Says:

Bullpen after 3, really? I mean, it was pretty much just one mistake pitch…

    OK, good.

  184. 184
    rebraunjr Says:

@174 I’m joining you. Honestly, it is amazing that this collection of misfits made the playoffs. Tell me who, other than Heyward and McCann, are premier players in the major leagues right now. None.

  185. 185
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Short leash for Hanson.

  186. 186
    IthacaBraves Says:

What’s harder to overcome a four runner deficit or a four major league hitter deficit?

  187. 187
    RobBroad4th Says:

    @179, Infante.

  188. 188
    rebraunjr Says:

@182 check that. at this time, i would have to agree.

  189. 189
    RobBroad4th Says:

@183, Happy drinking. Wish I could join.

  190. 190
    rebraunjr Says:

McOut with a single. Really crushed that one.

  191. 191
    IthacaBraves Says:

It’s not about lacking premier players so much as it is having, at any given time, upwards of four exceptionally bad players in the lineup. The Giants don’t have very many “premier” hitters, but they have solid major leaguers up and down the lineup.

  192. 192
    drewdat Says:

Lee has had a pretty good September, also. Unfortunately, McCann, Heyward, and Infante are all slumping now, which leaves Lee, who isn’t exactly hot either. Therefore, we won’t score again in 2010.

  193. 193
    Bethany Says:

    Ok, here we go.

  194. 194
    drewdat Says:

Come on, Jason. Big AB here.

  195. 195
    Brian J. Says:

Two on for Heyward with one out. This is theoretically exciting, right?

  196. 196
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Now or never, ladies.

  197. 197
    Catz Says:

    Here comes the double play…

  198. 198
    jdpeace Says:

    I feel theoretically excited.

  199. 199
    Bethany Says:

    Oh my god. *Sigh*

  200. 200
    Brian J. Says:

192- I’d say thanks a lot, but we all knew that was coming.

  201. 201
    jdpeace Says:

    Now I feel actually depressed.

  202. 202
    Catz Says:

Oh I know, it pretty much goes without saying these days.

  203. 203
    Tony Says:

    When he slumps…he slumps, but he’s only 21 y/o.

  204. 204
    RobBroad4th Says:

Anyone see any good movies lately?…

  205. 205
    jdpeace Says:

Flight of the Conchords is very funny. There was an episode on tonight.

  206. 206
    Bethany Says:

This has got to be one of the worst showings for a team in the playoffs in history.

  207. 207
    IthacaBraves Says:

    Why am I watching this?

  208. 208
    Mac Thomason Says:

I’ve no idea. I’m working through the DVR, already knocked out two shows.

  209. 209
    drewdat Says:

Reds have us beat, IMO. Of course, it’s like Sheets vs. Randy Johnson against us that one year.

  210. 210
    IthacaBraves Says:

    @ 201
The two worst lineups ever seen in postseason play are tonights braves lineup and last nights braves lineup.

  211. 211
    Catz Says:

I think it’s best I keep my cynicism to myself…

  212. 212
    jdpeace Says:

There’s a report floating around twitter that Cain is a belly-itcher and may be merely posing as a pitcher. That may prove to be his undoing.

  213. 213
    RobBroad4th Says:

Due up: Out 1, Out 2, Out 3

  214. 214
    IthacaBraves Says:

At what point do we all start rooting against the Braves scoring runs? A three game shutout over a playoff series would be historical.

  215. 215
    Brian J. Says:

209- Not quite. The Dodgers were shut out in the last three games of the 1965 World Series. It’s the failure to ever score a run that would be the Braves’ skid mark on history.

Lee’s on second! Yay! Or is that, Boo!

  216. 216
    Rip Says:

I might rather have the Nats or Fish field players with our pitching staff than these misfits coached by Terry P

Does anything think the Marlins would not have scored at this point?

  217. 217
    Smitty Says:

    Lee!

  218. 218
    drewdat Says:

What’s that? We caught a break?

  219. 219
    Stu Says:

This has got to be one of the worst showings for a team in the playoffs in history.

That’s because it’s one of the worst playoff teams in history. Seriously.

This stings, but I’m still thankful that we’re relevant again. There’s quite a bit to build on, here.

  220. 220
    RobBroad4th Says:

And what an era it was.

  221. 221
    Bethany Says:

    A run!!!!!!

  222. 222
    Smitty Says:

    A run!

  223. 223
    drewdat Says:

    OMGOMGOMG

Bring in a reliever? The Giants should think about cutting Cain after he let our team score.

  224. 224
    IthacaBraves Says:

    IT WORKED IT WORKED!!!!!

  225. 225
    Brian J. Says:

McCann?!? Now our historical significance has been erased!

  226. 226
    Catz Says:

    HOLY SHIT, A RUN!

  227. 227
    jdpeace Says:

Cats and Dogs living together!!! Go Braves!

  228. 228
    ryan c Says:

    4-1 AND HERE COMES MELKTOBER!

  229. 229
    Parish Says:

Woohoo! No longer shut out for the series.

  230. 230
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Runs!

  231. 231
    Adam M Says:

Here comes Melky to restore order.

  232. 232
    ryan c Says:

    dont swing melky.

  233. 233
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Anagrams for “Melky Cabrera”:

    Ramble Creaky
    Baker Male Cry
    Baker Lame Cry
    Amble Yack Err
    Ramble Car Key

  234. 234
    ryan c Says:

    good god, he’s fuckin’ horrible.

  235. 235
    Parish Says:

The announcer said the tying run is at the plate? I guess he knows Melky counts for two.

  236. 236
    IthacaBraves Says:

Melky makes me so angry, so so angry.

  237. 237
    Alex R. Says:

    just Melky being, well, fat.

  238. 238
    drewdat Says:

Do Dick Stockton and Chip share a brain? Makes sense with TBS wanting to scale back the baseball operations.

Melky isn’t the tying run Dick. Not really ever, but especially not down three with one baserunner.

  239. 239
    Smitty Says:

Is it too early for Folk Hero?

  240. 240
    Stu Says:

    I’d say it’s too late.

  241. 241
    Adam M Says:

    Yes.

It’s kind of funny that a player as mediocre as Conrad has captured so many hearts and minds.

Melky-Conrad-Gonzalez is such an awful trifecta that it’s almost comical. That is, it’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

  242. 242
    Brian J. Says:

234- Or too late in the season.

  243. 243
    ryan c Says:

and back to staring at balls down the middle and swinging at balls out of the zone. boy does our 5-8 hitters suck something fierce.

  244. 244
    Brian J. Says:

Which is worse, tonight’s popups or last night’s strikeouts?

  245. 245
    Smitty Says:

Why do Brooks and AAG keep swinging at that high fastball? They can’t hit it.

  246. 246
    Tony Says:

We have to deal with Agony next year too? Damn..

  247. 247
    Brian J. Says:

241- Unless you think we can go with Hicks or Diory.

  248. 248
    braves14 Says:

I miss Yunel. But hey, that chemistry!

  249. 249
    RobBroad4th Says:

@241, I wonder. Do they trade Infante while his stock is high or dump AAG and give SS to Omar?

  250. 250
    Parish Says:

I’m really not that stressed. My expectations were so low coming in. This is not the lineup that got us to the post season.

    Nice play Conrad.

  251. 251
    ryan c Says:

    @244
you must remember that AAG’s stock is high also.

  252. 252
    csg Says:

and we get a prime example of why Melky should never be playing in this game….

Lee and Bmac both put up good ab’s and we score. They are holding Bmac and Melky gets a 2-0 count. The right side is completely open for him to try and turn on a pitch. He is late and hits a lazy fly to LF….go eat another cheeseburger

also, Im sick of AAG’s act. After every popup, K, weak grounder…he’s slinging a bat or helmet. Someone needs to remind him that he sucks

  253. 253
    RobBroad4th Says:

I would hope that if it came down to Omar or Agony, they’d pick Omar. All that is assuming Chipper plays next year.

  254. 254
    Adam R Says:

I missed the McCann RBI single. Seems like TP hasn’t thoroughly corrupted him yet. *Rolls eyes*

And with that single NLDS run, my highest expectations for Braves 2010 baseball have now been met.

  255. 255
    drewdat Says:

Melky, go get the damn ball.

  256. 256
    csg Says:

AAG’s stock is not high. He has a .250avg .294OBP and the .676slg% in Atl is what everyone will expect from him

  257. 257
    Smitty Says:

Not sure how this is TP’s fault. This is a AAA line up. We lost our two best hitters. Chill.

  258. 258
    IthacaBraves Says:

    Early Cake BM

  259. 259
    Brian J. Says:

252- That still leaves five guys who would have started in the good old days of May, June, and July. That shouldn’t leave a lineup that scores .5 run per game.

  260. 260
    Adam M Says:

    252–He was being sarcastic.

  261. 261
    IthacaBraves Says:

ah shucks, I missed an R.

  262. 262
    DougM66 Says:

Not counting pitchers, how many of the playoff roster do we want to see on the opening day roster next season?

  263. 263
    RobBroad4th Says:

I think Alex was being facetious.

  264. 264
    csg Says:

if Wren wants to get back to what made this team successful, he’d cut AAG, Melky, Farnsworth, and Rick Ankiel before the plane gets back in Atl

  265. 265
    Brian J. Says:

Maybe he’ll cut them on the flight home. But we’ll give them parachutes first. Well, except maybe Melky- his bloblike form shouldn’t incur any damage when he hits the ground.

  266. 266
    IthacaBraves Says:

How many times in this series have the braves struck out on chin high fastballs?

  267. 267
    Parish Says:

I’d like to see a baserunner on before I burn Hinske.

  268. 268
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Melky coulda done that.

  269. 269
    Parish Says:

Geez – How many popups have we hit exactly right there this game?

  270. 270
    Smitty Says:

    Rob, he did last inning

  271. 271
    Tony Says:

CSG…to follow-up on Agony, every time he Ks or pops up he slings the bat as if he just missed the pitch. C’mon Agony, you are not fooling anyone. We know you are horrible.

  272. 272
    Randy Says:

Throw Melky off the plane, just not over Nebraska, we would lose acres of valuable land.

  273. 273
    drewdat Says:

    @261

I think it’s about a 10,000% increase since we got AAG and Ankiel (and Lee, but he’s somewhat useful when not swinging at face-high pitches). Conrad playing every day just adds that much more.

  274. 274
    RobBroad4th Says:

I didn’t realize the Giants had a bullpen.

  275. 275
    Smitty Says:

Heyward really needs to get on base here

  276. 276
    Tony Says:

Take a walk Heyward, the way he is swinging he is not going to hit the lefty. Dammit, I knew it would be Lopez.

  277. 277
    Adam M Says:

    They have a good bullpen.

  278. 278
    csg Says:

I feel sorry for the Padres now… they could at least put up a fight against someone

  279. 279
    Stu Says:

    Not a strike.

  280. 280
    Smitty Says:

    Too close to take

  281. 281
    Adam M Says:

    How was that a strike?

  282. 282
    csg Says:

another strikeout looking….Heyward is either just worn out from the length of this season or he’s in an awful slump

  283. 283
    csg Says:

We got that same pitch called earlier….cant complain about it now

  284. 284
    FUWren Says:

    Heyward is definitely a Brave.

  285. 285
    drewdat Says:

Too close to take, probably a tad low though. That was an OK AB for me, that guy is death to lefties. Not gonna do much unless he makes a huge mistake.

  286. 286
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Definitely too close to take.

  287. 287
    Stu Says:

It’s not too close to take if it should have been called ball 4. Heyward did his job.

278—We did we benefit from a called strike, thrown under-handed, that never got as high as the strike zone?

  288. 288
    James Says:

Or maybe the ump is calling ball 4 a strike.

  289. 289
    Adam M Says:

Braves: 1 run on 7 hits.
Giants: 4 runs on 6 hits.

    So it goes…

  290. 290
    Tony Says:

    Fumble by Omar…my Lord.

  291. 291
    Parish Says:

Their bench is so much better than our starters (in the outfield).

  292. 292
    csg Says:

I dont know why I care, this game was over in the 1st

  293. 293
    drewdat Says:

Rowand sucks too, that was just a lucky hit.

  294. 294
    Brian J. Says:

Me neither, but I can’t stop watching it. “Hi, my name is Brian, and I have a problem…”

  295. 295
    RobBroad4th Says:

@287, I hear you. For a guy who’s “just happy to be here,” I’m pretty unhappy.

  296. 296
    IthacaBraves Says:

It’s a bummer that more than 40 Million of next years payroll are going to be tied up into a pair of pitchers and a pair of position players that will combine, at best, give us league average production.

  297. 297
    Brian J. Says:

Now, how thoroughly can Melktober screw us ober? I mean, over?

  298. 298
    jdpeace Says:

Hey! Nobody out and coming up is….fuck.

  299. 299
    Stu Says:

    Lean into one, Melky.

  300. 300
    Parish Says:

Melky with a chance to prove his worth.

  301. 301
    braves14 Says:

    Melktober time.

  302. 302
    RobBroad4th Says:

Can Melky hot into a triple play here?

  303. 303
    csg Says:

San Fran has only had two games since August 30th where the opposing team has scored 5+ runs

  304. 304
    Parish Says:

Odds on Melky hitting into a triple play?

  305. 305
    Adam M Says:

Tonight feels much more familiar. A bunch of hits and one run.

  306. 306
    Parish Says:

297 – Jinx – But it was so obvious.

  307. 307
    braves14 Says:

Wow, Wilson looks like a complete douche.

  308. 308
    IthacaBraves Says:

    Melk Man v. Beach Boy!

  309. 309
    csg Says:

one out here from Melky is a plus

  310. 310
    ryan c Says:

melky in “defensive swing” mode on a 1-1 count. that’s about right…

  311. 311
    csg Says:

ive never seen a player be so late on so many pitches

pay attention, Wilson throws fastballs….one after another

  312. 312
    Tony Says:

Geez those beards are a travesty…

  313. 313
    Adam M Says:

    Is he dying the beard?

  314. 314
    Brian J. Says:

And Melky… fails to fail! We’re through the looking glass, people!

  315. 315
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Hahahaha!

  316. 316
    Tony Says:

    WOW!!!

  317. 317
    csg Says:

hey, a correct call for once

  318. 318
    Bill K. Says:

    Did…Melky accidentally get on base?

  319. 319
    Catz Says:

HOLY JESUS CHRIST MELKY GOT AN RBI WITHOUT GETTING OUT
    THE WORLD IS ENDING

  320. 320
    jdpeace Says:

Wow. Melky beating out an infield hit.

  321. 321
    sdp Says:

FAT PANDA VS. FAT MELKY, ADVANTAGE MELK-DUD

    MIND = BLOWN

SEND ONE INTO THE F*CKING BAY, CONRAD!

  322. 322
    jdpeace Says:

    Oh. Bad throw.

  323. 323
    IthacaBraves Says:

Why bunt with your third best power hitter?

  324. 324
    csg Says:

Hey Brooks, AAG is behind you….swing

  325. 325
    Stu Says:

Bunting for Gonzalez and Ankiel? Come on.

    EDIT: OMG.

  326. 326
    Adam M Says:

    He’s bunting… for AAG? Yikes.

  327. 327
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Nice, Brooks. Do something, Alex.

  328. 328
    ryan c Says:

anyone else thinking that melky is about to get thrown out at home?

  329. 329
    Tony Says:

    Great Job Agony!!

  330. 330
    ryan c Says:

    STOP SWINGING AT HIGH FASTBALLS!

  331. 331
    sdp Says:

    HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  332. 332
    Brian J. Says:

    AAG!!!!!!!! Oink, flap, oink, flap…

  333. 333
    csg Says:

    holy crap!!

  334. 334
    Catz Says:

OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL TEAM IS THIS!
    AAG, all is forgiven.

  335. 335
    Adam M Says:

    OH MY GOD

  336. 336
    Parish Says:

Melky jibes might need to be temporarily suspended.

  337. 337
    ryan c Says:

    REDEEMED!

  338. 338
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Unreal!!

  339. 339
    braves14 Says:

    I don’t believe what I just saw.

  340. 340
    'Rissa Says:

Okay…who are these Braves, and where did our real team go?

  341. 341
    jdpeace Says:

YEEEEESSSSSS!!! We’ve fallen through a worm hole. Everything is different.

  342. 342
    Parish Says:

    How about one more hit?

  343. 343
    Stu Says:

Now, this loss is going to be painful.

  344. 344
    Catz Says:

I think if Ankiel got a hit there, the universe would have imploded.

  345. 345
    drewdat Says:

    We need this run.

  346. 346
    sdp Says:

I’m stunned that Diaz isn’t swinging at these pitches.

  347. 347
    drewdat Says:

    Nasty pitch.

  348. 348
    jdpeace Says:

    Teases.

  349. 349
    csg Says:

getting called on to pinch hit and being afraid to swing the bat….unreal

  350. 350
    ryan c Says:

freddie would have been nice in that situation, but i guess it’s necessary to have the lisp or diory…sigh.

  351. 351
    Stu Says:

344—He wasn’t afraid; he was just fooled.

  352. 352
    reaganman Says:

    Is Hinske dead?

  353. 353
    Rip Says:

why not hinske there unless it was a double switch with wagner pitching 8th?

  354. 354
    Tony Says:

Bullpen hold, top of the line-up in the 9th…

  355. 355
    James Says:

I don’t quite know how to feel about this run scoring thing we just did. Seems unnatural.

  356. 356
    Stu Says:

    Hinske was already used.

  357. 357
    Smitty Says:

    Let’s hold them!

  358. 358
    braves14 Says:

    338 — Yep.

  359. 359
    IthacaBraves Says:

What inning do you guy think Farnsworth loses this game in?

  360. 360
    Stephen in the UAE Says:

The inning ends with the bat on Diaz’s shoulder….

Still, hard to imagine that we got three runs….

  361. 361
    reaganman Says:

    oops

  362. 362
    JoeyT Says:

Have fun with our bullpen, Giants.

  363. 363
    csg Says:

Diaz never takes 5 out of 6 pitches…he shouldve been sitting on that 2-0 meatball

  364. 364
    Stephen in the UAE Says:

    #323–maybe he lost the count….

  365. 365
    Catz Says:

Let’s just hope we don’t bring Farnsworth in, under any circumstances… I’d be more comfortable with Melky pitching

  366. 366
    ryan c Says:

    i’m scared for kimbrel

  367. 367
    Tony Says:

    What a pitch…

  368. 368
    Stu Says:

    361—Me, too.

  369. 369
    csg Says:

    tough task here for Kimbrel

  370. 370
    Stu Says:

Before it gets lost in the shuffle, I just wanna say — though I didn’t agree with the attempt — that was one helluva bunt by Brooks Conrad.

  371. 371
    ryan c Says:

i just cracked open a beer. the name: “victory” lager.

  372. 372
    csg Says:

    awesome

  373. 373
    Brian J. Says:

    366- Ahhhh! Don’t jinx us!

  374. 374
    ryan c Says:

he’s getting the fastball timing down. throw hims something else.

  375. 375
    Stu Says:

I believe that’s 14 straight fastballs from Kimbrel.

  376. 376
    JoeyT Says:

    Kimbrel-Posey is intense.

  377. 377
    ryan c Says:

    what a battle.

  378. 378
    stupup74 Says:

that graphic about the IF was amazing.

  379. 379
    braves14 Says:

Damn, this is an epic battle.

  380. 380
    Tony Says:

    NASTEEEEE

  381. 381
    ryan c Says:

    WOOOOOT! FRICKIN’ PUMPED!

  382. 382
    Adam R Says:

    The future’s looking bright.

  383. 383
    Brian J. Says:

And Kimbrel wins the battle of wits!

  384. 384
    Stu Says:

I may be falling in love with Craig Kimbrel.

  385. 385
    sdp Says:

    Uh, Kimbrel. Wow.

  386. 386
    James Says:

    Kimbel is THE NASTY.

  387. 387
    braves14 Says:

    Kimbrel is the new K-Rod.

  388. 388

    Kimbrel is the shit.

  389. 389
    ryan c Says:

kimbrel ate his DIRTY-Os this morning.

  390. 390
    csg Says:

    our future closer boys

  391. 391
    Smitty Says:

    Kimbrel is Rambo

  392. 392
    csg Says:

    btw Kimbrels better, kimbrels better

  393. 393
    ryan c Says:

i’m almost finished with my first beer and i just want to say how much i love all of you guys…

  394. 394
    jdpeace Says:

    1 for 52!!

  395. 395
    Stu Says:

I really wish we hadn’t yanked Hanson after 4 innings, right now.

  396. 396
    csg Says:

how many pitches did Wilson have to throw last inning?

  397. 397
    Stu Says:

    Oh…mar.

  398. 398
    csg Says:

    that was bad Omar

  399. 399
    Stephen in the UAE Says:

    shades of Frenchy….

  400. 400
    Adam M Says:

Wilson seems to still have his velocity.

  401. 401
    Stu Says:

They’re pitching Heyward way in or on the outside corner. Be nice if he were willing to drive that outside pitch the other way, like he was doing in April and May.

  402. 402
    Grst Says:

    And back to sucking.

  403. 403
    ryan c Says:

    @396
yeah, it seems like he’s locked in on pulling the ball.

  404. 404
    Adam M Says:

    I have a feeling we’re gonna see Farnsworth tonight…

  405. 405
    csg Says:

#396 – yup….whenever he starts driving that outside pitch to LCF its going to be awesome

  406. 406
    Parish Says:

Heyward has been pretty useless so far this post season.

  407. 407
    Brian J. Says:

If Lee were a Yankee or Phillie, he’d be on first base now.

  408. 408
    csg Says:

cmon Lee, lets get to BMAC

  409. 409
    CourtneyC Says:

Not to excited about trusting the game to Farnsworth and the Lisp. We have to get the job done here!

  410. 410
    ryan c Says:

derrek lee looks he’s going to get out.

  411. 411
    Bethany Says:

Holy geez, I was doing some design work and check on here to find that we’re back in it. GOOOOO!!!!

  412. 412
    drewdat Says:

    Review, please.

    Nevermind.

  413. 413
    CourtneyC Says:

But i will trust the game to Bethany’s treadmill.

  414. 414
    sdp Says:

Bobby’s still managing this game, by the way.

  415. 415
    RobBroad4th Says:

Who else has a bad feeling about this one?

  416. 416
    Stu Says:

This is really going to hurt.

  417. 417
    csg Says:

I really dont see how Wilson is so effective. He leaves a lot of pitches up in the zone….it works for him somehow

  418. 418
    Smitty Says:

Bethany, I think you need to get on that treadmill

  419. 419
    csg Says:

Id let Kimbrel go for another inning

  420. 420
    JoeyT Says:

I have a good feeling about this one. The Braves will win this game. Count it.

  421. 421
    Smitty Says:

I think it has to be Wagner time. Let Melk-tober end this thing

  422. 422
    Brian J. Says:

414- Which is exactly what we do.

  423. 423
    Smitty Says:

I’m having a Charlie Liebrant flash back

  424. 424
    ryan c Says:

    PIGPEN!

  425. 425
    sdp Says:

    My God!

  426. 426
    Smitty Says:

    Nice play all round there

  427. 427
    braves14 Says:

Lee is a freaking pickin’ machine.

  428. 428
    ryan c Says:

    man, lee is good.

  429. 429
    Stu Says:

Lee is really saving AGony’s bacon.

  430. 430
    csg Says:

    great pick DLEE

  431. 431
    Brian J. Says:

Lee has made a lot of fine scoops tonight to keep our infield from looking like its usual awful self.

  432. 432
    Adam R Says:

Give Lee some credit. He’s holding this infield defense together.

  433. 433
    Smitty Says:

    Walk Ross

  434. 434
    Stu Says:

I really don’t want to see Cody Ross right now.

  435. 435
    Bethany Says:

Oh my god I’m going i’m not going to stop until we pull this out.

  436. 436
    Stu Says:

    That was strike-effing-three.

  437. 437
    Smitty Says:

    Wow! Missed that one

  438. 438
    Adam M Says:

Brenly just makes it up as he goes along.

  439. 439
    drewdat Says:

    That was a strike ump.

  440. 440
    csg Says:

oh my, that was strike 3

  441. 441
    Mac Thomason Says:

All the Giants have to do is hold us in the tenth and it’s Farnsworthless Time.

  442. 442
    Andrew B Says:

    strike 5 to cody ross

  443. 443
    Brian J. Says:

You’ll regret that around the 14th inning, Bethany.

  444. 444
    stupup74 Says:

    Craig Kimbrell = Bowel Locker

    D. Lee has great hands at 1B. If he is cheap, he would not be a bad keeper to help ease Freeman into the big leagues next year.

The Home Plate umpire is awful

  445. 445
    csg Says:

alright, lets go get Kimbrel a win

yep, its 100% official…Kimbrel is my favorite brave

  446. 446
    Andrew B Says:

strike 6 on ross retires the side

  447. 447
    RobBroad4th Says:

Kimbrel is the shit and the tits!

  448. 448
    Smitty Says:

    Melk-tober for the win

  449. 449
    drewdat Says:

New hero. Finally someone on our staff that can paint an accurate picture of Cody Ross.

  450. 450
    jdpeace Says:

I love Pigpen. He’s my new favorite.

  451. 451
    Catz Says:

Thank God For Kimbrel. I was expecting the homer there from the Braves Killer.

  452. 452
    CourtneyC Says:

    Kimbrel. Is. Awesome.

  453. 453
    Tony Says:

Lee is an excellent defensive 1st baseman, Kimbrel is a BEAST.

  454. 454
    James Says:

    Kimbrel is almost unfair.

  455. 455
    jdpeace Says:

Farnsworth better punch in the face whoever hits the homerun off of him. I want him all in on this one.

  456. 456
    Adam R Says:

I know it’s a dumb idea, but my inner seven year-old wants Kimbrel out there for a third inning. That was awesome.

  457. 457
    ryan c Says:

beer #2…braves win #1 coming next.

  458. 458
    Mac Thomason Says:

Okay, here’s the inning… McCann walks. Diory runs for him. Melky hits into double play, then Conrad triples. AAG and Ankiel strike out.

  459. 459
    James Says:

Rather use Beachy than Farnsworthless at this point.

  460. 460
    Stu Says:

McCann has justmissed a couple tonight.

  461. 461
    drewdat Says:

    SOB, fake fences.

  462. 462
    braves14 Says:

Damn, I thought it was gone.

  463. 463
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Speaking of bowel lockers.

  464. 464
    ryan c Says:

adam r…i hope youre right about kimbrel.

  465. 465
    Stu Says:

This is reallyreally going to hurt.

  466. 466
    drewdat Says:

That is gone, it went at least 400 feet to the alley. He didn’t miss it, SF just commissioned a ballpark that demands years of meticulous roiding to hit one out to that part.

  467. 467
    Stu Says:

He missed it. You could see it in his reaction off the bat; he knew.

  468. 468
    CourtneyC Says:

If we get beat with Wagner on the mound: so be it. If we get beat after Wagner goes an inning or two: so be it. But, if we get beat with Farnsworth or Martinez on the mound, and Wagner still on the bench, I am going to be pissed!

  469. 469
    csg Says:

braves have to go to Wagner for 2IP now

  470. 470
    Smitty Says:

McCann hit that ball like 800 feet

  471. 471
    ryan c Says:

barry bonds had a .609 obp in 2004. that’s stupid.

  472. 472
    Stu Says:

At least if we bring Farnsworth in, the loss will be unsurprising and therefore less painful. If Wagner blows it…

  473. 473
    Smitty Says:

    Not Renteria. Glaus at third?

  474. 474
    Brian J. Says:

I have a baaaaaad feeling about Glaus.

  475. 475
    csg Says:

ive got a bad feeling about this half inning

    wow, Glaus to 3b

  476. 476
    ryan c Says:

    ummm, what the hell?

  477. 477
    braves14 Says:

    Glaus in at 3rd?

  478. 478
    jdpeace Says:

    Troy @ 3rd. Wow.

  479. 479
    Adam M Says:

    Glaus at 3B. So… that’s interesting.

  480. 480
    CourtneyC Says:

There’s your Glaus at third, for all you Conrad haters.

  481. 481
    ryan c Says:

with billy in there, it’s ok. uhhh…nevermind. geez.

  482. 482
    csg Says:

if you are willing to bring Glaus in here, why in the hell hasnt he started?

  483. 483
    stupup74 Says:

Chadahia going all in this inning

  484. 484
    Smitty Says:

    Smart play

  485. 485
    Brian J. Says:

Wow, that mistake didn’t take long to manifest itself.

  486. 486
    Stu Says:

Glaus can apparently play third in the highest of leverage, but not at the start of the game.

    Smart move by Renteria. Ugh.

  487. 487
    CourtneyC Says:

    wow

  488. 488
    RobBroad4th Says:

    That was pretty smart. Damn.

  489. 489
    Adam R Says:

    *headdesk*

  490. 490
    Adam M Says:

There was no play, no matter the 3B there.

  491. 491
    IthacaBraves Says:

    oh my god.

  492. 492
    Smitty Says:

    Oh great…

  493. 493
    drewdat Says:

Just good execution by Renteria. Maybe a little luck.

    Oh crap.

  494. 494
    csg Says:

    NOOO…wagner looks hurt

  495. 495
    Adam M Says:

    Wagner hurt.

  496. 496
    Stu Says:

I don’t think we have a third baseman who makes that play, though. It was pretty perfect.

And we’re done. Hate it for Wagner that he goes out like that.

  497. 497
    ryan c Says:

    fuck…farnsworth.

  498. 498
    ermoore Says:

    Oh. That is bad.

  499. 499
    jdpeace Says:

    Well, hamster-balls.

  500. 500
    RobBroad4th Says:

    Ugh.

  501. 501
    csg Says:

well boys, wagner got us here at least….I dont see him pitching again….tough way to go out

  502. 502
    CourtneyC Says:

Well, it looks like Farnsworth is going to be responsible for two of the most heartbreaking losses in recent Braves postseason history.

  503. 503
    Adam M Says:

Maybe next year we won’t rely so much on old guys. Remember all the question marks coming into the season? Chipper, Glaus, Saito, Wagner… yeah.

  504. 504
    Tony Says:

    My goodness….

Next year looks bright with Kimbrel, Venters, Dunn, O’Fla, and co.

At least we know what is coming….

  505. 505
    sdp Says:

    Well, that fucking sucks.

  506. 506
    csg Says:

    #496 – i agree

  507. 507
    stupup74 Says:

    We’re doomed

  508. 508
    IthacaBraves Says:

HAHAHAHA Don just said “And that will bring Kyle Farnsworth in, and THAT is horrible new for the braves.”

  509. 509
    drewdat Says:

This year started pretty great, but we are obviously star-crossed. How did we even get here?

  510. 510
    csg Says:

Farnsworth to do it to us again

  511. 511
    CourtneyC Says:

here comes Cpt. Straght93mphFastball to save the day.

  512. 512
    Adam M Says:

    Yeah, this is bad.

  513. 513
    csg Says:

our injuries this year…Heyward, Prado, Chipper, Wagner, Jurrjens, Glaus, Saito, Medlen, EOF, then you add in all the AB’s given to AAG, Melky, Ankiel, and Mclouth…yeah we shouldnt be here

  514. 514
    csg Says:

    Beachy, Lisp, anyone else

  515. 515
    IthacaBraves Says:

Ooh ooh good. Farnsworth’s fastball is at 89 mph.

  516. 516
    Smitty Says:

I think it hit the bat

  517. 517
    sdp Says:

lol, I’m totally at peace with what is about to happen.

  518. 518
    Brian J. Says:

Well, coulda been worse. Probably will be worse, actually.

  519. 519
    IthacaBraves Says:

    Wow the HBP was 94.

  520. 520
    csg Says:

please get him out of here

  521. 521
    Stephen in the UAE Says:

Now this has just turned ugly….

  522. 522
    CourtneyC Says:

that’s one way to set up the double play…

  523. 523
    Stu Says:

517—Ditto. The only thing we don’t know is exactly how it happens here.

  524. 524
    Tony Says:

    sdp…I think we all are.

And of course Posey is on deck.

  525. 525
    braves14 Says:

Farnsworth is going to walk the next 2 guys.

  526. 526
    csg Says:

Farnsworth vs Huff – it ends here boys

  527. 527
    DG Says:

I met Kyle’s brother when he was deployed to Kuwait in 2005-2006. He said that he and Kyle were going to use the MLB money Kyle had saved to open up a gym one day. How I wish that he had decided to do that before now…or in 2005, for that matter…

  528. 528
    marspr Says:

    Ditto squared…

  529. 529
    jdpeace Says:

I feel like this isn’t my first prison shower.

  530. 530
    ryan c Says:

the announcers dont do their homework.

  531. 531
    drewdat Says:

That foul ball was a heartstopper.

  532. 532
    csg Says:

    530 – no they dont

  533. 533
    RobBroad4th Says:

    This is like pulling teeth.

  534. 534
    Adam M Says:

This is like the end of Butch Cassidy. Let’s do this!

  535. 535
    Smitty Says:

He is going to walk him and walk one in. That is my prediction

  536. 536
    jdpeace Says:

Bite down. Fighting it makes it worse.

  537. 537
    Stu Says:

    534—Perfect!

  538. 538
    braves14 Says:

    Eff you umpires.

  539. 539
    RobBroad4th Says:

Looked like a strike to me.

  540. 540
    csg Says:

oh good, load em for Posey

  541. 541
    Brian J. Says:

Same combination as last night- managerial brain fart + bad call + bad player plays badly = loss.

  542. 542
    Stu Says:

Extremely shallow fly ball to Melky, who catches it and throws it sideways into Triples Alley.

  543. 543
    Parish Says:

    Farnsworth is a disaster.

  560. 560

Well, that was unexpected–the good pitching, not the throw. Glaus is the only 3B on the roster. Watch and learn, boys, watch and learn.

    A nice surprise….

Now, I wonder when we will here about Wags….

  563. 563

  566. 566

I love how low our standards for third base are.

He successfully completed a throw to second — he is our best third baseman.

  567. 567

  578. 578
    csg Says:

566 – not screwing up a play is a plus for this team, still cant believe he didnt go home

zero chance Farnsworth holds this lead, zero, none…no chance at all. We might as well just walk off the field now. Zero chance….Kyle sucks and will not hold this lead. Even with only 2 outs left, he will not hold this lead. Zero chance

  630. 630
    RobBroad4th Says:

    I almost passed out there.

  631. 631

  652. 652
    csg Says:

Farns sucks and will not get this last out, he sucks. He cant get Cody Ross out…Braves will lose and Kyle will always suck and not be welcomed back in ATL. Kyle sucks and should become a bat boy

  653. 653
    jdpeace Says:

    Not Cody Ross. Please no.

  654. 654

And all of a sudden the Royals trade doesn’t look so bad.

  660. 660

btw, our future closer, Kimbrel, is now our closer

  680. 680
    Catz Says:

    YES! WE WIN
You’ve got to say that was huge. Coming back from 4 runs, bad players not sucking for once, winning an AWAY GAME IN EXTRA INNINGS……

  681. 681
    Stu Says:

Yep, time to drink a few canned Fat Tires and head to bed. Happy.

  682. 682
    Bethany Says:

    OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  683. 683
    jj3bagger Says:

And that’s why we watch baseball folks. I can’t believe it all happened. I forgive everybody for everything, that includes you Alex Gonzalez, you Rick Ankiel, and you one Kyle Farnsworth.

  684. 684
    drewdat Says:

I feel like it merits the descriptor, epic chain of events that got us that win.

Melky infield hit (tough error call), AAG double, Wagner gets hurt, Troy comes in and turns a crazy double play, Ankiel hits one into McCovey Cove, and Farnsworth coaxes three flyouts. That’s stupid.

  685. 685
    stupup74 Says:

This game went exactly like I thought it would, Troy Glaus making the Defensive play of the year for the braves, then Rick Ankiel Homering in the 11th and Kyle Farnsworth getting the win.

I’m sure that is exactly how we all drew that one up.

If you had that trifecta, then you should go play the lottery.

Holy sh*t cluster balls, was that fun, I think it was, but I flipped over my coffee table and got in a fight with my wife over that but the Braves won.

    It was sooooooo worth it

  686. 686
    Smitty Says:

    The goats saved the day!

  687. 687
    Bethany Says:

Ok so I’m never leaving the treadmill. This just became Serious Business.

  688. 688
    CourtneyC Says:

    682- but Melky still sucks.

  689. 689
    pcbeachbum Says:

The Braves dun gone and dun the “do ron ron”!!

Now pray for the Wag and hope we don’t sag!! (pass the corn please.)

  690. 690
    jdpeace Says:

That was the most bizzaro win in Braves history.

  691. 691
    csg Says:

how about that…Golden Boy with the bases loaded and a decent fly ball will win it…instead Glaus turns a sweet DP and Ricky hits one a freakin mile

  692. 692
    Stu Says:

So, who replaces Wagner in Atlanta? Saito? Kawakami? Freeman?

  693. 693
    csg Says:

    Saito or Jurrjens

  694. 694
    Bethany Says:

    Hopefully Saito.

  695. 695
    jj3bagger Says:

I think we can all agree Gregor Blanco would not have done that.

  696. 696
    Smitty Says:

can we make a roster move now?

  697. 697
    Timo Says:

UN BE LIEVABLE!! woke up just in time to see the 8th…! What a comeback!

  698. 698
    Marc Schneider Says:

This has got to be one of the greatest wins in recent team history. When the last ball was caught I was stunnedd.

Don’t anyone ever say this team doesn’t try. This is the guttiest team I’ve ever seen._____

  699. 699
    Bethany Says:

Farnsworth is a trending topic on Twitter.

  700. 700
    stupup74 Says:

I feel vindicated. First Braves road games I ever went to were in San Fran, the weekend Bonds hit those two walkoffs right before his dad died.

Tonight that felt so good to see that ball land in the cove and it be the braves hitting it.

    Soooooooo goooood

  701. 701
    drewdat Says:

If you replace Wagner, I think he is ineligible for the NLCS also (may not be a factor depending on the injury). I think I heard the announcers in the Rays game say that for Rocco Baldelli, who was replaced by Willy Aybar.

  702. 702
    Smitty Says:

    Biggest win since 1995

  703. 703
    Adam R Says:

    Dennis Eckersley hasn’t aged. Creepy.

  704. 704
    Mac Thomason Says:

Recapped. Did that really just happen?

  705. 705
    Catz Says:

Yeah, I thought he was going to pull a Kelly Johnson on that last fly ball. I wouldn’t have been surprised.

  706. 706
    IthacaBraves Says:

at 701, I believe that’s true. I heard that on WFAN today.

  707. 707
    ububba Says:

Two games at The Ted, y’all!

  708. 708
    Alex Says:

Why do we do this to ourselves? I’ve never met anyone associated with the Braves and never will. I haven’t lived in Atlanta in over two decades. And here I am, I can’t sleep, and I’ve been torturing myself for the last few hours. Why?
